Healthy Coffee Protein Shake with Chia Seeds

Coffee is an essential part of my diet. While I’ve gone on a no-coffee cleanse once, I brimmed with utter joy on the very first morning when I finally made my first brew in 2 weeks. That’s when I knew I could never live without coffee.

I switch up my java style depending on the body needs. A post-workout coffee requires more than just caffeine – it needs protein for muscle repair and bananas and chia seeds for that extra energy and to satisfy the post-workout hunger.

So far, I’ve tried Bob’s Red Mill Vanilla Protein with Chia and Probiotics and WelleCo Chocolate Nourishing Plant Protein. I don’t consider myself vegan but I always feel better consuming plant-based products. And since I’ve cut down on eating animal meat, I’ve noticed how light and energetic my body feels as compared to before.

I head to the loo more often from consuming Bob’s Red Mill Vanilla Protein with Chia and Probiotics but it does give me an immediate energy boost over time. Plus, I love how the vanilla flavour is not too overpowering and adds a little bit of taste to my shakes, especially in fruit and green smoothies. And, it keeps me satiated for a longer period as compared to WelleCo Chocolate Nourishing Plant Protein.

Yet what I truly love about WellCo Chocolate Nourishing Plant Protein is the fact that it tastes anything but a protein supplement. The cocoa in it blends perfectly well in any shakes and smoothies I’ve added it into. I swear, it feels like eating a chocolate dessert every single time. I add a scoop of this into my coffee for a quick mocha drink. Sometimes, I blend it in with a cup of soy or oat milk, some ice and a vanilla flavouring for an effortless milkshake 😍

And here’s my favourite coffee shake recipe that you can re-create with any chocolate protein powder of your choice.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 60ml espresso
  • 250 – 500ml Oat milk or your milk of choice
  • 1 scoop of WellCo Chocolate Nourishing Plant Protein
  • Chia seeds as a topping
  • Honey or a teaspoon of brown sugar for sweetness – optional
  • Some ice cubes

Blend all ingredients until well blended. If you prefer a creamier texture, add one whole banana. I add about half because I don’t want the flavour of the banana to overpower the coffee and chocolate.
